This blog is about life with my husband who was diagnosed with Early Onset Alzheimer's and Frontal Lobe Dementia in 2008. He was 64 at the time although now, knowing more about the disease, Alzheimer's was present many, many years ago, which is why early detection is so important. As you read the blog the character "Al" that I created in 2008, represents the way that Alzheimer's is invading our daily lives.
There is an archive tab further down the page that starts from the beginning of our journey.

Living with Bob and "Al"

Sheri has been trying to take take better care of herself. She has not succeeded in all areas, but she is finally caught up and all her dental needs. She feels good about that, since her dentist anxiety had her shaking in the chair at each visit. She is hoping to keep working on other areas of her health, but the stresses of life with Bob and "Al" keep getting in the way, and it is the busy season at work and she is tired all the time. Sheri knows she just needs to pause, praise and pray although sometimes it is easier said then done.
Isaiah 31 but those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.

Living with Bob and "Al"

Sheri feels bad, but she has realized this week that pain makes her grouchy. She knows it is not Bob or "Al's" fault but "Al" wants to know the plan, and Sheri just wants the plan to be MAKE THE PAIN IN HER MOUTH STOP!
Care giving is hard enough when you feel fine, but when you feel bad... well quite frankly it sucks.
(I apologize for the s word, Bob would be appalled)

Living with Bob and "Al"

Sheri is grateful for a dear friend that took her for her oral surgery and then stayed with her during that first day and daughter number one ( the one who wears her heart on her sleeve) for trading off getting Bob and "Al" to daycare. Then daughter number one cooked Thanksgiving dinner by herself yesterday. She did a great job. Sheri has decided that if dentists told you ahead of time how bad the pain was going to be you might decide it would be wisest to leave  your wisdom teeth in your head :)

Living with Bob and "Al"

Sheri has a "bucket" list, she knows for most people the "bucket list" is things a person wants to do before they die. For Sheri as a caregiver it is a list of things to she needs to do "to survive". She is sure other caregivers feel this way too, it is so hard to get their own needs (and I mean needs) taken care of. Daughter number one (the one who wears her heart on her sleeve) stayed with Bob and "Al", Sheri found an office that takes evening appointments and she got herself back to the dentist. Not exactly her favorite thing to do. So Sheri gets to cross one of her bucket list. Oh yeah, making progress.
