This blog is about life with my husband who was diagnosed with Early Onset Alzheimer's and Frontal Lobe Dementia in 2008. He was 64 at the time although now, knowing more about the disease, Alzheimer's was present many, many years ago, which is why early detection is so important. As you read the blog the character "Al" that I created in 2008, represents the way that Alzheimer's is invading our daily lives.
There is an archive tab further down the page that starts from the beginning of our journey.

Living with Bob and "Al"
As Sheri has watched Bob deteriorate this past year, she tries to tell herself to look at the things that he can still do... and not what "Al" has stolen from him, because she knows it only goes down from here. She fears she has fallen back in the trap of limiting what they do and where they go based on the work it takes to get there, and the old expectations of what enjoyment is. So she will try again this year to get out as much as she can and make a presumption that Bob and "Al" will enjoy it and that she can handle any incidents that occur along the way. This is as close to a resolution as it gets in this very small Alzheimer world she lives in. :)

And The My dear is an excellent resolution and one that I think I should try to keep to. Happy New Year Sheri!
ReplyDeleteLori I hope you have wonderful year. Thanks for following my journey. :)
DeleteI feel the same way Sherri. And then I feel guilty. Constant entertainment, constant care, if I only knew what my hubby was thinking. Thank God he's not demanding. Right now I have very little help. But not sure for how much longer. Happy New Year and thank you for sharing your experience! xoxo Maureen
