This blog is about life with my husband who was diagnosed with Early Onset Alzheimer's and Frontal Lobe Dementia in 2008. He was 64 at the time although now, knowing more about the disease, Alzheimer's was present many, many years ago, which is why early detection is so important. As you read the blog the character "Al" that I created in 2008, represents the way that Alzheimer's is invading our daily lives.
There is an archive tab further down the page that starts from the beginning of our journey.

Living with Bob and "Al"

There is a sharp contrast, from "the boys" a year ago, even since this past Christmas and now. Every once and a while Sheri can get him to sing a few words. This was the song he had a two line solo in , in the choir at the day center he attended for 5 years. A Pastor friend has been going with Sheri to pray over "the boys" and sing hymns with "them", my friend is holding Bob's hand keeping beat, "Al" is no longer capable.
Sheri's heart hurts.

Living with Bob and "Al"

Sheri has to remind herself daily to look outside herself and her situation. pray for Hati, pray for Florida, pray for our country and pray for these two people one of whom will be leading our country.
The only strength we have is in prayer.
Sheri needs to pause, praise and pray.

Matthew 18:20
For where two or three gather in my name, there am I with them."

Living with Bob and "Al"

Sheri is happy Bob can still enjoy his music, and that he has the coordination to keep time to the music. There is however a teensy weensy part of Sheri that wishes "Al" did not need to "enjoy" it all day every day, as you can see in the video it can get pretty intense :)
Simple Pleasures Sheri, simple pleasures

Psalm 47:1

To the choirmaster. A Psalm of the Sons of Korah. Clap your hands, all peoples! Shout to God with loud songs of joy!

Living with Bob and "Al"

Bob is still overwhelmed with "the bestest shoes I ever had", as "Al" says. Bob got them for free at work, or so "Al" thinks. "They" love them so much "they" wear them to bed with Bob's PJ's.
Somethings you need to just let go of, don't sweat the small stuff :)
