Sheri posts daily because this disease effects every moment of every day. She tries to give you a glimpse of what every day life is like with someone with this disease. She writes this in third person, so she she can step out of her skin and a step away form the reality that is her journey. She uses humor to keep her head above water, but there is NOTHING funny about the disease itself. She struggles often with how much is to much to share, but she also knows that if she does not speak what life is really like no one will ever know the enormity of the impact this disease has on daily life . So without being too graphic, she will just say that "Al" decided the bedroom floor was the right place to relieve himself in the middle of the night, last night. Sheri is so glad that Bob has no memory of this as this kind, gentle man would be devastated, as Sheri is. She is losing her race against time.
Sheri needs to Pause Praise and Pray.
This blog is about life with my husband who was diagnosed with Early Onset Alzheimer's and Frontal Lobe Dementia in 2008. He was 64 at the time although now, knowing more about the disease, Alzheimer's was present many, many years ago, which is why early detection is so important. As you read the blog the character "Al" that I created in 2008, represents the way that Alzheimer's is invading our daily lives.
There is an archive tab further down the page that starts from the beginning of our journey.

Living with Bob and "Al"
1:30 am seems to be the bewitching hour for Bob and "Al" to decide it is time to work on nuts and bolts again.
Ugh.

Living with Bob and "Al"
Sheri is very excited. Daughter number 2 (the one who sheilds her heart with her sleeve) Is coming in from California in a few days! It will be so very good to see her, and just the distaction she needs from real life... stuff. Bob and "Al" do not even know she has been gone, but family is everything, because in the end, aside from God that is all we've got.

Living with Bob and "Al"
Sheri and Bob were in the car going to the grocery store yesterday. Bob was mumbling something about the year. Sheri lightheartedly said " well what year is it anyway?" Bob stared out the window a bit and then with an air of confidence "Al" said "19, lets just leave it at that."

Living with Bob and "Al"
One of "Al's" new favorite activities, putting nuts on bolts. Sheri is so glad Bob still has the dexterity to do this. Part of her never ending quest to keep "Al" active and involved. One of the hardest things to remember, is that activity's Sheri gives Bob now, do not have to have the same type of purpose as in Bob's real life past. She just tries to find a familiar snippet of a function Bob used to do, simplify it as much as possible and then hopefully "Al" will be able to do it. Trial and error. :)
