This blog is about life with my husband who was diagnosed with Early Onset Alzheimer's and Frontal Lobe Dementia in 2008. He was 64 at the time although now, knowing more about the disease, Alzheimer's was present many, many years ago, which is why early detection is so important. As you read the blog the character "Al" that I created in 2008, represents the way that Alzheimer's is invading our daily lives.
There is an archive tab further down the page that starts from the beginning of our journey.

Living with Bob and "Al"

Bob was an extremely heave smoker from a very young age. Sheri had always wanted him to quit but Bob just couldn't do it. When the doctors pulled his drivers license right after diagnosis (seven years ago), Sheri just eventually refused to buy him cigarettes, and coupled with his terrible memory even back then, he forgot he ever smoked... until yesterday. Daughter Number 1 (the one who wears her heart on her sleeve) took Bob for a couple of hours for Sheri. She said while at her house, Bob patted his shirt pockets in his old familiar way and said " I was going to bring my cigarettes" but I guess I forgot them". Daughter Number 1 was shocked and said "Oh well" and she redirected. Sheri has no idea what brought that up or where "Al" found the memory of smoking after all these years but
Good job Daughter Number 1!

Of course, I only knew Bob, not Al, and only knew Bob in high school but the boy I knew was a clean living guy. He never smoked when I knew him. That was way before he "met" Al.
