This blog is about life with my husband who was diagnosed with Early Onset Alzheimer's and Frontal Lobe Dementia in 2008. He was 64 at the time although now, knowing more about the disease, Alzheimer's was present many, many years ago, which is why early detection is so important. As you read the blog the character "Al" that I created in 2008, represents the way that Alzheimer's is invading our daily lives.
There is an archive tab further down the page that starts from the beginning of our journey.

Living with Bob and "Al"

Sheri was helping Bob get undressed last night and she asked him to take off his shoes. Bob sat down in his chair and removed the left shoe and put it on the floor. Then in the few short seconds it took for Bob to reach for the right shoe "Al" saw the left shoe on the floor picked it back up and started examining it. While Bob was looking inside the shoe, Sheri said "Bob what are you looking for, is something wrong?" "Al", with a question in his voice replied "Well it says 10 1/2 so I guess this must be mine?"
Heavy sigh...

  1. I'm also looking after my Mum who has Alzheimers, she's 64. She will only ever put on her left shoe, and if you don't help with the right shoe, she will happily walk around with only 1 shoe on all day. Keep up the posts, I love to read them and have a smile. I have just discovered your blog
