This blog is about life with my husband who was diagnosed with Early Onset Alzheimer's and Frontal Lobe Dementia in 2008. He was 64 at the time although now, knowing more about the disease, Alzheimer's was present many, many years ago, which is why early detection is so important. As you read the blog the character "Al" that I created in 2008, represents the way that Alzheimer's is invading our daily lives.
There is an archive tab further down the page that starts from the beginning of our journey.

Living with Bob and "Al"

Sheri went driving again yesterday. She went to a couple of places. She found another nature center not to far from home. Bob and "Al" really enjoy nature centers. Then she saw a sign that said "Water Bird Observation Center" and they followed the very long winding dirt road to the location. They got to the area and they had to park. As usual she became a little apprehensive because there was no one there and it appeared that they needed to walk quite a ways down a wood chip path. This is always a worry for Sheri, not knowing how far they will need to walk in these park areas because of Bob's back, even with his cane, this can be very slow process.
The wood chip path was surrounded by trees and seemed to go on forever. Sheri told Bob that she thought they should turn back soon ( mainly because of Sheri's anxiety, lol she really should do something about that!) Anyway just as she started to turn around and go back, frustrated that they cold not find the right area, Sheri caught a glimpse of a small opening in the trees on the right of the path. Sheri said "Oh wait what is that?" They stepped through the opening and the view was just breathtaking. They were high up on a hill looking down over a preserve. It was a small area, room for just a handful of people. There was a cool breeze blowing and even a picnic table to sit on. Sheri is not sure why but the surprise of  what was hidden there absolutely elated her. She felt such a sense of peace and joy, God knew just what she needed yesterday, and as they stood there together, life felt normal and care free... and the joy is still in her heart today.
