This blog is about life with my husband who was diagnosed with Early Onset Alzheimer's and Frontal Lobe Dementia in 2008. He was 64 at the time although now, knowing more about the disease, Alzheimer's was present many, many years ago, which is why early detection is so important. As you read the blog the character "Al" that I created in 2008, represents the way that Alzheimer's is invading our daily lives.

Living with Bob and "Al"

Bob was drinking his coffee yesterday morning when  "Al" turned to her and said " You know who I haven't  heard from lately... Iris." Sheri was caught of guard, Iris his oldest sister died many, many years ago 1984 Sheri thinks. Sheri has known for a while that Bob has moved into losing long term memory but she just was not prepared for this stage. Sheri just nodded, and redirected the conversation.
Subtle changes,  Sheri hates this disease.

    I guess Iris must have been a lot older. I remember Nancy Lee but she was just a year or so older...and I think played saxophone in the band. Then there was a sister a year or two younger who might have played clarinet...maybe Carol or Cathy?? All the kids were musicians of some sort. Bob was terrific on the tuba in both the varsity marching band and the in the pep band with another couple of my buddies, Clarence Orf and Clifford Weiss. As the song goes, "Those were the days my friend, we thought they'd never end."

    JIm, Yes Iris was the oldest. There were 10 total. So not in order I don't think -Iris, Marty, Nancy, Robert, Caroline, Susan, Cathy, Betsy, Barbara and Vicki . wait is that 10 ? :)
