This blog is about life with my husband who was diagnosed with Early Onset Alzheimer's and Frontal Lobe Dementia in 2008. He was 64 at the time although now, knowing more about the disease, Alzheimer's was present many, many years ago, which is why early detection is so important. As you read the blog the character "Al" that I created in 2008, represents the way that Alzheimer's is invading our daily lives.
There is an archive tab further down the page that starts from the beginning of our journey.

Living with Bob and "Al"

Sheri had another idea for Bob. She had purchased some wire nuts in yellow , blue and red and thought maybe he could sort them by color. Sheri's hope was since he managed a hardware store in his last career that the sorting the wire nuts would be familiar to him.  Well, Bob certainly liked handling the wire nuts, but sorting them was not his thing. "Al" decided he should separate them in groups of 20 for some reason, which he attempted to do over and over again with the same handful of yellow wire nuts. He even asked for tape so he could label the containers (something he did often years ago)  "I need to get this done for the store", he said over and over again. Well it was not Sheri's mission but it was "Al's" and it kept Bob and "Al" engaged for almost 2 hours , and they felt they were doing something of value, and at this stage of the game, that is what is important. :)
