Sheri needs to learn to handle things differently with Bob. When She picked him up from "work" (Code for Adult Day Center) they were walking to the parking ramp, when Bob mentioned that maybe he should have used the restroom before they left work. Sheri said well lets go back we are here now. "Al" refused saying he could wait, she insisted but 6"4 Bob and "Al" would not budge. It was 2 below zero with the wind chill that evening, so standing outside the ramp debating the issue did not seem worth it at the time. Sheri was wrong, instead within minutes, Bob, having already forgotten Sheri's request to go back in, began a very painful ride home, which left Sheri scrambling for place that would have a bathroom. Sheri needs to remember that Bob and "Al" have highly impaired judgment. She needs to make decisions for "them" and figure out a way to make it happen.
Sheri hates this disease.
This blog is about life with my husband who was diagnosed with Early Onset Alzheimer's and Frontal Lobe Dementia in 2008. He was 64 at the time although now, knowing more about the disease, Alzheimer's was present many, many years ago, which is why early detection is so important. As you read the blog the character "Al" that I created in 2008, represents the way that Alzheimer's is invading our daily lives.
There is an archive tab further down the page that starts from the beginning of our journey.

Me too. I always have to learn things the hard way, and come up with the perfect solution after the fact, but never in the moment. Next time maybe tell him, “Now that you mention it – I really have to go, too,” and just turn and go back. I know my husband will always follow me. Hope you have a Merry Christmas, Sheri! Praise God for His awesome gift – Immanuel!
ReplyDeleteGreat idea Mary thank you! Yes, you are right he would have followed me back. Merry Christmas to you and yours also! God is Good.
