This blog is about life with my husband who was diagnosed with Early Onset Alzheimer's and Frontal Lobe Dementia in 2008. He was 64 at the time although now, knowing more about the disease, Alzheimer's was present many, many years ago, which is why early detection is so important. As you read the blog the character "Al" that I created in 2008, represents the way that Alzheimer's is invading our daily lives.
There is an archive tab further down the page that starts from the beginning of our journey.

Living with Bob and Al

Sheri wonders if other spouses of Alzheimer's victims, have as much trouble as she does, not letting this disease become front and center in their lives. It seems like everything is measured by before "Al" entered her life or after "Al" entered her life, or reexamining just when "Al" really did first appear. She must handle everything herself. She sees other couples discussing plans, vacations and experiencing joys and sorrows together, she is jealous. She is not proud of it but she is jealous. She does not know how to spend even one day without mourning the loss of all the things  "Al"  has stolen from her and her family. "Al" is the first thing she thinks about when she wakes up, and the last thing she thinks about when she goes to bed at night.
Sheri hates this disease.

  1. In spite of it all, you often find ways to see the joy that Al and Bob brings into your life; the best part is that you share the laughs with people like me.
