Sheri has to take Bob and Al
back to the Neurologist in a week or so
She hates that part...
She hates it because
it is a time when she can not escape
the realities of Bobs conditon
She can't joke about it or make lite of it
in order to feel better.
She can't cry there and look weak...
She is just trapped in a tiny room
with Bob and Al and her reality....
She just as to sit there and listen to
the doctor go through his test
Bob count from 100 backwards by 7
Bob spell world backwards
Bob do you know the date?
Bob do you know where you are?
Bob draw the face of a clock for me..
Sheri is tempted to cheat and prep him for the quiz....
Then Sheri has to answer the questions about
how Bob is really doing...
Right in front of Bob and Al...
She has to say things that Bob gets upset about
becasue of course Al does not realize the things
he is forgetting, or how he uses words in places
he shouldn't, or how the stories of his life
now have Mel Gibson or a president involved
in them......and of course...
Bob saw the reminder of the appointment
stuck on the refrigerator and said "who is this doctor"
"Oh he did my back surgery years ago.....
Why do I have to see him again?
They just want more money....."
Sheri dreads going to the Neurologist ...............
Does anyone out there understand what this is like?
This blog is about life with my husband who was diagnosed with Early Onset Alzheimer's and Frontal Lobe Dementia in 2008. He was 64 at the time although now, knowing more about the disease, Alzheimer's was present many, many years ago, which is why early detection is so important. As you read the blog the character "Al" that I created in 2008, represents the way that Alzheimer's is invading our daily lives.
There is an archive tab further down the page that starts from the beginning of our journey.
