The beginning of the end Chapter 17
As it turned out, hospice could not get there until about 1:00 in the afternoon. Sheri was past drained, tired, a better description would be numb and zombie like. She had called daughters one and two and explained what was happening. They both headed out to the facility and were there for the meeting with hospice. Such beautiful, grown up young ladies God has blessed Sheri with.
This blog is about life with my husband who was diagnosed with Early Onset Alzheimer's and Frontal Lobe Dementia in 2008. He was 64 at the time although now, knowing more about the disease, Alzheimer's was present many, many years ago, which is why early detection is so important. As you read the blog the character "Al" that I created in 2008, represents the way that Alzheimer's is invading our daily lives.
There is an archive tab further down the page that starts from the beginning of our journey.

Living with Bob and "Al"
Sheri knew one thing she would struggle with would be giving up control of Bob's everyday mental stimulation needs , and as expected she is struggling greatly. She realizes there is no way for the care center to provide the type of interaction Sheri was providing... but it seems like there is not much stimulation at all. Sheri's heart hurts about this, because she can see the decline each week.
She is not sure what she is holding on to, but it is fading in "the boys" quickly.

Living with Bob and "Al"
Sheri went to see the "boys" this weekend. One thing has changed for sure. Before "Al" moved in Bob rarely smiled, and if he did it seemed forced and tight. Sheri thinks this is the most natural smile she has ever seen on Bob's face, even if it is because "Al" has stolen his natural inhibitions. God is good.
