This blog is about life with my husband who was diagnosed with Early Onset Alzheimer's and Frontal Lobe Dementia in 2008. He was 64 at the time although now, knowing more about the disease, Alzheimer's was present many, many years ago, which is why early detection is so important. As you read the blog the character "Al" that I created in 2008, represents the way that Alzheimer's is invading our daily lives.
There is an archive tab further down the page that starts from the beginning of our journey.

Living with Bob and "Al"

Sheri had a God moment yesterday. Feeling somewhat sorry for herself, and knowing Bob and "Al" had no idea it was their anniversary, Sheri took the day off and sent the boys off on the bus to the Day Center anyway and claimed the day as her own. She set off early with her camera to catch the sunrise hoping for spectacular color. Sheri was disappointed when she approached the park and there was just a dark haze in the sky. There she stood bundled up staring at sky. As she stared at the barren trees with their dark outlined against the gray blue sky, the image was beautiful and Sheri started snapping pictures Then it happened. The vision she sees most often of Alzheimer's in the brain is what they call "tangles." As she stared at the beauty of the twisted branches in the trees, she heard a whisper of a voice in her ear telling her to see the beauty in the "tangles", Sheri began to cry and then the cry turned into joy and beauty. She began to see that she needs to see the beauty of the "tangles" of Alzheimer's like she sees the beauty of the tangles of the trees. God is good all the time.

  1. I've seen the brain connections in the tree branches too. And happy anniversary to you. You honor your husband and marriage every day with your devotion to his care.
