This blog is about life with my husband who was diagnosed with Early Onset Alzheimer's and Frontal Lobe Dementia in 2008. He was 64 at the time although now, knowing more about the disease, Alzheimer's was present many, many years ago, which is why early detection is so important. As you read the blog the character "Al" that I created in 2008, represents the way that Alzheimer's is invading our daily lives.
There is an archive tab further down the page that starts from the beginning of our journey.

Living with Bob and "Al "

Bob woke up very early Saturday morning and the only thing on his mind was "the plan" for the day, when he found out it was not a "work" day. So Sheri packed a picnic lunch and took off with Bob and "Al" and camera in tow. They left at about 9:00 am and did not return until after sunset. They had a lovely day of fall picture taking and although Sheri was exhausted, it felt good that she had satisfied "the plan". They had been home less than 10 minutes, Sheri with her feet up ( after having walked so much) "Al" moaning with back pain, in Bob's favorite chair, when "Al" turns to Sheri and says "What would you would like to do today?"
Oy vey...

  1. I am so glad you had such a nice day. The picture calms my soul. We don't have the beautiful fall days here like you do. I was wondering if you had heard of this grant? I thought of you and all caregivers when I read about it. They are giving grants for in home care giving. You can check it out at this address.

  2. Have you read the book "Creating Moments of Joy" ? Bob may not remember the events of that day - but he did have a good day as it was happening. And YOU too need to have good days, full of nurturing nature and fresh air. Hugs to you Sheri !
