This blog is about life with my husband who was diagnosed with Early Onset Alzheimer's and Frontal Lobe Dementia in 2008. He was 64 at the time although now, knowing more about the disease, Alzheimer's was present many, many years ago, which is why early detection is so important. As you read the blog the character "Al" that I created in 2008, represents the way that Alzheimer's is invading our daily lives.
There is an archive tab further down the page that starts from the beginning of our journey.

Living with Bob and "Al"

Bob has become very critical of all the roads and drivers and still wants to get a motorcycle (even though he has not driven in 7 years.) Sitting as the first car at a stop light, Bob says to Sheri "Boy they really made a mess of this area. Sheri replies " what do you mean?" "Al" with sheer frustration in his voice says "well, they've got all those cars backed up over there (pointing to the cars at the stop light directly across the intersection but the other side of the street), but they have no cars in the lanes in front of us, these lanes are open, they should add more lanes over there so the traffic won't back up like that over there". Sheri replies ( just for the sake of conversation) "Well it is probably because those lanes are going a different direction." "Al" with a question in his voice says "What makes you think that?"
Yep, not even a bicycle for you , sorry "Al".

  1. This really brings home the importance of good Alzheimer's care. It's such a subtle affliction, which makes it hard to treat. Thanks for helping add to people's awareness about "Al" as you so cleverly put it. Thiago | http://bethesdahealthcarefacility.net/Services/
