This blog is about life with my husband who was diagnosed with Early Onset Alzheimer's and Frontal Lobe Dementia in 2008. He was 64 at the time although now, knowing more about the disease, Alzheimer's was present many, many years ago, which is why early detection is so important. As you read the blog the character "Al" that I created in 2008, represents the way that Alzheimer's is invading our daily lives.

Living with Bob and "Al"

Bob is really struggling with dressing and undressing now."Al" loses track of what he is suppose to be doing, and how to do it,  so incredibly fast now. Sheri is going to have to move this process to the bedroom because this tiny house she rented also has a tiny bathroom and Sheri can not help him in there. Hence Sheri has had to send him back in 3 or 4 times to get him into his pajamas. Sheri can remember a time not too long ago, when she was frustrated when "Al" would miss a button on his shirt. There is only one direction this disease moves, and it drags everyone down with it.

    You sure nailed it on the head-- only one direction, and that is down. My wife and I went through this with her mother from 2002-2006. Alzheimer's teaches some very bitter lessons, doesn't it?
    I know there is little solace to be had during the daily battle with "Al", but don't forget to treat yourself good when you can.

    Dressing is one thing my mother resents help with in the Special Care Unit she is in. I think it is more the personality/approach of some of the aides....but it is one of her main "complaints".
