This blog is about life with my husband who was diagnosed with Early Onset Alzheimer's and Frontal Lobe Dementia in 2008. He was 64 at the time although now, knowing more about the disease, Alzheimer's was present many, many years ago, which is why early detection is so important. As you read the blog the character "Al" that I created in 2008, represents the way that Alzheimer's is invading our daily lives.
There is an archive tab further down the page that starts from the beginning of our journey.

Living with Bob and "Al"

Sheri took Bob to a local restaurant for lunch, one they have been going to for over 15 years. Sheri chose that restaurant because Bob knows the way to restroom there. ( These are the things an Alzheimer spouse thinks about when planning an outing:) As usual while waiting for the food to arrive, Bob said he needed to use the restroom. Sheri replied "Okay, you know where it is right?" Bob respond "Oh, yes." and off he went, hobbling with his cane. Sheri as usual, followed silently behind him a few yards. Sheri looked down at her watch for just a second and when she looked back up Bob had turned and walked quite confidently, into the restaurant kitchen. Bob turned around about 6 feet in realizing his error to some extent, which now left "Al" standing at the kitchen entrance scratching Bob's head. "They "stood there thumb in belt loop stretching out Bob's back in his usual way, whistling trying to ignore Bob's confusion and pretend nothing had happened, yet having no idea where the restroom was. Sheri redirected.
Such subtle changes.
