This blog is about life with my husband who was diagnosed with Early Onset Alzheimer's and Frontal Lobe Dementia in 2008. He was 64 at the time although now, knowing more about the disease, Alzheimer's was present many, many years ago, which is why early detection is so important. As you read the blog the character "Al" that I created in 2008, represents the way that Alzheimer's is invading our daily lives.
There is an archive tab further down the page that starts from the beginning of our journey.

Living with Bob and "Al"

Sheri looks for glimpses of Bob. The strong, silent, build anything, fix anything man that was able to read blueprints and orchestrate major re-modelings of  huge retail stores. Sadly she sees, "Al" bent and broken, unsure of how put the batteries back in the cat laser toy. She wishes she had listened more carefully to the silence of Bob back then. At least then Sheri could read the meaning of those silent words in his soft brown eyes. "Al's" eyes seem empty, and although she accepts that this "is what it is" Sheri struggles to understand God's purpose of that emptiness.

Jeremiah 29:11

11 For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.

  1. Sometimes... I have to think, when Mom seems "hollow" that maybe her spirit is flitting back and forth, "here" and "there". Finding peace "there", because "here" is so confusing and frustrating.
