This blog is about life with my husband who was diagnosed with Early Onset Alzheimer's and Frontal Lobe Dementia in 2008. He was 64 at the time although now, knowing more about the disease, Alzheimer's was present many, many years ago, which is why early detection is so important. As you read the blog the character "Al" that I created in 2008, represents the way that Alzheimer's is invading our daily lives.
There is an archive tab further down the page that starts from the beginning of our journey.

Living with Bob and "Al"

Bob follows Sheri everywhere. Even at home "Al" stands with his arms down his hands clasped to together in front of him. To be honest this drives Sheri crazy. She is sure that sometimes her voice has a bit if a tone in it when she asks him to "just sit down for a few minutes". She does not mean to sound mean, he just gets underfoot, if she does not have something for him to do ... every minute of every day. That is why she cherishes the hour in the morning with her coffee and cats before Bob and "Al" wake up in the morning.  :)

  2. David Niven, author of The Hundred Simple Secrets of Happy People wrote, “As a forgiveness technique, self-acceptance allows you to acknowledge that you’re a good person, faults and all. It doesn’t mean that you ignore the faults or stop trying to improve yourself but it does mean that you value yourself above those elements."
Although I've never met you, your writing shows you to be a kind, caring, loving and loyal person. Please don't allow moments of frustration caused by simply being human to make you doubt yourself. Something tells me your Bob would definitely want you to remember this.

  4. I think it's wonderful that you wake up every morning and go trough what you do for this man. And even though it gets hard sometimes you still make it through the day for someone that you love and I really do admire that. Kepp up the great job!
