This blog is about life with my husband who was diagnosed with Early Onset Alzheimer's and Frontal Lobe Dementia in 2008. He was 64 at the time although now, knowing more about the disease, Alzheimer's was present many, many years ago, which is why early detection is so important. As you read the blog the character "Al" that I created in 2008, represents the way that Alzheimer's is invading our daily lives.
There is an archive tab further down the page that starts from the beginning of our journey.

Living with Bob and "Al"

Sheri is understanding more about Bob's memory confusion. They had their field trip at "work" on Thursday (code for Adult Day Center). Bob told Sheri they did sing to the people there, and that he got to do his solo. Sheri was baffled at first, but then after a few more probing questions on Sheri's part she realized that after the field trip when they got back to the Center, they had their regular choir practice which they do most Thursdays. Bob's memory is so poor that "Al" only remembers the last few things he has done in the day. Sheri just needs to learn not to argue about it. In the long run it just does not matter, and Sheri is learning that she does not always have to be right.   :)

  1. Hi, Sherri. You know I think that knowing it's ok to not prove I am right about things, is one of the difficult areas for me right now. I grew up the youngest in a very smart family, and I have a learning disability. I have always had to prove I was right about many things in my life. My intellectual side says it doesn't matter his reality is his reality, but my heart says, but I am right. Now to just learn to close me mouth... oh dear :]
