This blog is about life with my husband who was diagnosed with Early Onset Alzheimer's and Frontal Lobe Dementia in 2008. He was 64 at the time although now, knowing more about the disease, Alzheimer's was present many, many years ago, which is why early detection is so important. As you read the blog the character "Al" that I created in 2008, represents the way that Alzheimer's is invading our daily lives.
There is an archive tab further down the page that starts from the beginning of our journey.

Living with Bob and "Al"

Sheri never thought that when she wrote the article for "The Caregiver's Voice"  that she would be honored by family and friends the way that she has been. Sheri feels very, very, fortunate to have  people in her life that were willing to express how they feel about Sheri and her family. Below is a link to the "Caregiver of the Month with a Heart of Gold" award that Sheri received today. She hesitates to even put this on her blog, because she knows there are even more deserving caregivers then herself. So she is sharing it in the spirit of all caregivers everywhere particularly Ginny Carlson who just recently lost her husband John to Alzheimer's. She was a humble caregiver to him for many years and a wonderful mentor. If you are a caregiver reading this and care to share your first name and location with Sheri, post a comment with that info so the world can know you are out there, Sheri is sharing the spirit of this award with you, from her heart.

Sheri also wants to thank Brenda and her team at "The Caregiver's Voice" for putting all this together and for taking the time to hear our voices. Another big thank you to author Robin Lee Hatcher for her collaboration  on this contest. This is really such an honor.

  1. Congratulations on being recognized as caregiver of the month. You should be proud that your family is so supportive and vocal about all you do. Your role as caregiver is hard and you deserve thanks for all you do for Bob and Al. My Mom suffers from dementia and although she lives in a memory care center, the support she requires emotionally, physically and with coordinating care and finances, etc. is sometimes overwhelming.

  2. Sheri,

I was delighted to see that you're being recognized for the wonderful "Caregiver" you are. I can't think of anyone more deserving.

I know how difficult and trying it can be. But, you have a kind and generous spirit and set an example for the rest of us to follow.

    Congratulations Sheri!
