This blog is about life with my husband who was diagnosed with Early Onset Alzheimer's and Frontal Lobe Dementia in 2008. He was 64 at the time although now, knowing more about the disease, Alzheimer's was present many, many years ago, which is why early detection is so important. As you read the blog the character "Al" that I created in 2008, represents the way that Alzheimer's is invading our daily lives.
There is an archive tab further down the page that starts from the beginning of our journey.

Living with Bob and "Al"

Sheri is somewhat fascinated by the odd thought patterns of this disease. Every time Bob goes some place new, "Al" insists he has been there before. The first time it happened she did not think much about it, but Sheri definitely sees it as a constant now. Sheri wonders if the fact that Bob is "losing new information in 30 seconds" (which is what his neurology tests showed) could be creating a feeling of sorts, of him having been there before? Just pondering...

  1. Kinda of a permanent deja vu :)

It's similar to when my husband constantly says "I know that." Even right after he asks a question about something - as soon as you give him the answer he says, "I know that."

    I think it's a coping mechanism.

  2. Same thing here too, only it is "Oh, that's right".
