This blog is about life with my husband who was diagnosed with Early Onset Alzheimer's and Frontal Lobe Dementia in 2008. He was 64 at the time although now, knowing more about the disease, Alzheimer's was present many, many years ago, which is why early detection is so important. As you read the blog the character "Al" that I created in 2008, represents the way that Alzheimer's is invading our daily lives.
There is an archive tab further down the page that starts from the beginning of our journey.

Living with Bob and Al
Sheri took Bob and "Al" out to take more fall photo's yesterday. Everyone was having a great time, until Sheri got pulled over by a police officer. Sheri has never had a ticket (knock on wood) in her well let's just say "many" years of driving, never even been pulled over, so she was a little bit shook up. One thing Sheri knows for sure if she gets shook up Bob and "Al" get shook up big time. The officer approached the car, looked in and immediately began shaking his head and apologizing. "Do you know why I pulled you over?" Sheri very fearfully replied " no..." "Well this is my mistake" he said " Is that Robert" pointing to "Al" (who was pretty distraught by now) "Yes" Sheri said. "Well" the policeman said loudly "His drivers license is cancelled" nodding over at Bob."Yes, I know he is disabled, he doesn't drive" retorted Sheri ( in what for her is an edgy tone, but with a sweet little smile on her face) The officer said that when the car went by he thought Bob was driving, and that is why he pulled us over. he apologized again for the error to told Sheri to have a nice day. Sheri was okay after that, however Bob and "Al" were more than a little bit upset the officer brought up the not being able to drive situation. Bob hasn't driven since 2008 when the doctor pulled his license now that topic was front and center for Bob again. Bob kept repeating all the way home I am not allowed to drive, I am not allowed to drive, they won't let me drive. Sheri was frustrated and had to spend the rest of the day trying to undue the damage that was done there. maybe "Al" will have forgotten the whole thing when he wakes up this morning. :)
