This blog is about life with my husband who was diagnosed with Early Onset Alzheimer's and Frontal Lobe Dementia in 2008. He was 64 at the time although now, knowing more about the disease, Alzheimer's was present many, many years ago, which is why early detection is so important. As you read the blog the character "Al" that I created in 2008, represents the way that Alzheimer's is invading our daily lives.
There is an archive tab further down the page that starts from the beginning of our journey.

Living with Bob and Al
Sheri is like everyone else, she doesn't want to think about where she might be in her 70's or 80's. But this disease "Alzheimer's" does that to you. If you have visited a nursing home ever, it is most likely something you would rather forget. Sheri hated the smells and the sight of your father and mother lining the hall ways in wheel chairs. One time Sheri remembers seeing your grandmother and grandfather with their faces down in their food. Sheri was appalled . Sheri saw your husband and your neighbors wife asking for help to get up. Sheri began to feel very lonely, staring at her small space and wondered if any one would wipe her chin or hug her again... the time to think about it is now.

Nicely worded, Sheri! It's eye opening to spend time in a nursing home. People just don't seem to care for anyone except themselves.
ReplyDeleteI do have a burning question that I have been struggling for an answer.
How come everyone "Praises Jesus" with words but don't even consider praising the God within their loved one rotting in a nursing home?
Today, my mom's friend Bob asked me if he's going to die in there. My mom started to laugh. I told him, "We're all going to die." He said, "When?!" I told him when God was good and ready!
Even after my mom passes on, I will continue to visit nursing homes like most people attend services at their churches.
