Bob is from very strong German roots, his father came over from Germany and for many years he has boasted his German heritage with great vigor. Sheri and Bob were sitting out on the swing this evening. Sheri was trying to make conversation as she usually does. She was asking Bob about his day at "work" (code for Adult Day Care) he mentioned that they had walked to the park today. Sheri said " Oh that's great you love the park." Bob replied "No, I wasn't prepared"
"Prepared for what" Sheri asked quizzically. "Al" answered with clear frustration in his voice " for the topic about where our family's are from, I wasn't prepared" Sheri, very confused said " Well Bob you know where your family is from, so you probably could have handled that" "Al" tilted his head and clenched his jaw, in his familiar way and replied "No, no I don't".
Sheri hates, hates, hates this disease, it robs the past, present and future all at the same time.
This blog is about life with my husband who was diagnosed with Early Onset Alzheimer's and Frontal Lobe Dementia in 2008. He was 64 at the time although now, knowing more about the disease, Alzheimer's was present many, many years ago, which is why early detection is so important. As you read the blog the character "Al" that I created in 2008, represents the way that Alzheimer's is invading our daily lives.
There is an archive tab further down the page that starts from the beginning of our journey.
