This blog is about life with my husband who was diagnosed with Early Onset Alzheimer's and Frontal Lobe Dementia in 2008. He was 64 at the time although now, knowing more about the disease, Alzheimer's was present many, many years ago, which is why early detection is so important. As you read the blog the character "Al" that I created in 2008, represents the way that Alzheimer's is invading our daily lives.
There is an archive tab further down the page that starts from the beginning of our journey.

Living with Bob and Al

As Sheri has been savoring this last season in her garden, a thought occurred to her that maybe she could find and investor to buy her home and then rent it back to her? It is almost an acre lot across from a park, in a very wooded area. She could start a business of having senior groups over to hear the player piano (they have 300 + piano rolls.) Have tea's outside in the garden, enjoy all that nature has to offer. Sheri had done this for seniors from the apartment communities she had managed before just because of  her desire to enrich their lives. Sheri enjoyed it so much and Bob and "Al" could help. Of course, the house is in need of repair from all of "Al's" home improvement escapades. But Sheri is sure there is still a value left to this place other than one left in her heart.

  1. Excellent idea! I've had a similar thought, to open a care facility in our home.

    I'm rooting for you!

  2. If this is what God is leading you to do, I know He will work out the details. Do let us know if this is what you are doing. I may know a person that would want to invest in this. Thank you for all your sharing, my husband was diagnosed at the age of 61 and he is still at home alone, but I am seeing a time when he will need a place to be while I am at work. Your insights and ability to look at your husband as him and Al has helped me to taked the same approach. You are in our prayers.

  3. Thank you for all your kind words. If my writing helps even one person deal with this horrible disease, it is worth it to me. I will include you in my prayers as well. Best wishes to you.
