This blog is about life with my husband who was diagnosed with Early Onset Alzheimer's and Frontal Lobe Dementia in 2008. He was 64 at the time although now, knowing more about the disease, Alzheimer's was present many, many years ago, which is why early detection is so important. As you read the blog the character "Al" that I created in 2008, represents the way that Alzheimer's is invading our daily lives.
There is an archive tab further down the page that starts from the beginning of our journey.

Living with Bob and Al
Well Sheri attempted to take Bob and "Al" out to the movies. Just trying to be like any other couple. She gets to the show a little early, they talk about what to see, and Sheri buys the tickets ahead of time. They decide to walk around the mall for a few minutes before the show starts. They walk around and a few minutes later go back to theater. As Sheri walks into the theater "Al" says wait we haven't bought the tickets yet. Sheri says "yes we bought them a few minutes ago." "Oh "Al" says "I didn't know that." They watch the very chick flick, Bob tells Sheri he has know idea what is going on. (Heavy sigh) About 45 minutes from the end, right at the most important part of the movie, "Al" has to go to the bathroom, looking around the theater Sheri realizes they're going to have to walk in front of everyone to get to the exit. (drat) So Sheri takes Bob and "Al" cane and all, passed all the rows of people, Bob stops in the middle of the theater and tells Sheri he doesn't think this is the right way. Sheri ssh's him and pulls him by the belt loop to get him to get out of the middle of the theater screen... They make the long trek to bathroom, and Sheri decides it's not worth getting Bob and "Al" back in to the theater. So without discussion, they go back and get into the car. Bob and "Al" never even noticed that they did not finish the movie... Sheri says well what did you think of the movie? "Al" replies "What movie?" :)

Bless your heart Sheri, you are an angel.
ReplyDeleteYou make a point of going to that movie again someday and watching it clear through to the end.
I think you've become a pro at savoring the RIGHT moment.
All the best,
Sandy
