This blog is about life with my husband who was diagnosed with Early Onset Alzheimer's and Frontal Lobe Dementia in 2008. He was 64 at the time although now, knowing more about the disease, Alzheimer's was present many, many years ago, which is why early detection is so important. As you read the blog the character "Al" that I created in 2008, represents the way that Alzheimer's is invading our daily lives.
There is an archive tab further down the page that starts from the beginning of our journey.

Living with Bob and Al

Sheri doesn't like the fact that
her emotions are up in her throat today
just a thought can bring tears to the surface
She knows it is because of the stress
of her job ending, a new one starting next week
(that she is of course very thankful for)
but with it comes all of the complications
the longer commute the situation with Bob and "Al"
But she also knows it is because of the huge hole in her heart
from the relationship that doesn't exist
not by anyone's fault, it just is what it is
a hole that tears open a little bit more each day
the silence, the stares, the lack of human touch
the life as an Alzheimer spouse...
Darn those Chic flicks.

The eternal God is your refuge, and underneath are the everlasting arms. (Deuteronomy 33:27)

  1. Hang in there. People say that routine is important for Alzheimers patients, but it is also important for the caregivers. I can understand your apprehension as you get ready to make a change. "Al" is enough uncertainty on a daily basis.
