This blog is about life with my husband who was diagnosed with Early Onset Alzheimer's and Frontal Lobe Dementia in 2008. He was 64 at the time although now, knowing more about the disease, Alzheimer's was present many, many years ago, which is why early detection is so important. As you read the blog the character "Al" that I created in 2008, represents the way that Alzheimer's is invading our daily lives.

Living with Bob and Al

Bob and Al are frustrated
Watching out the window as the 20 inches
of snow blanket the driveway
In this frozen tundra they call home
It takes all the distraction techniques
Sheri can come up with
to keep "them" in the house
It is clear that Bob is feeling useless
as Sheri suggests playing the player piano,
or baking cookies
He is sure he can do it... shoveling the snow
He is angry that Sheri is "controlling the situation
He is feeling helpless and his jaw is clenched tight
"Bob I really need you to help me do blah, blah",
"I am going out to clear the snow"
he mumbles, (holding his shoulder still weak from
the Thanksgiving fall that he has no recollection of)
" but I can't find my boots "
That was Bob talking not "Al"
Cause Sheri hid his boots... :)

    The reflections you share are very heartfelt - I wish I could send you a hug. You do a wonderful job of expressing the frustration and grief of caring for a person experiencing AD.
