This blog is about life with my husband who was diagnosed with Early Onset Alzheimer's and Frontal Lobe Dementia in 2008. He was 64 at the time although now, knowing more about the disease, Alzheimer's was present many, many years ago, which is why early detection is so important. As you read the blog the character "Al" that I created in 2008, represents the way that Alzheimer's is invading our daily lives.
There is an archive tab further down the page that starts from the beginning of our journey.

Living with Bob and "Al"

Sheri was letting Bob help her fold laundry. She would give him the towels but inevitably "Al" would reach for one of Bob's flannel shirts. After struggling for almost 15 minutes with one flannel shirt Bob turned to Sheri and "Al" said " I don't know what this is, but what ever it is, it is not working."
Sheri thought to herself  "sure it is, it bought me 15 minutes of uninterrupted time." In that 15 minutes she was able to fill the bird feeders, (then check on "Al") check the mail that had not been checked in days (then check on "Al"} and grab a quick picture of the squirrel through the bed room window.
See you just have to appreciate the simple things :)

  3. I understand exactly what you are saying, my father lives with me and he has Alzheimer's. Learning to have those peaceful moments keep you going. The biggest challenge for me is making sure I refill my spirit which keeps my life balanced, however sometimes I let Al frustrate me.
