This blog is about life with my husband who was diagnosed with Early Onset Alzheimer's and Frontal Lobe Dementia in 2008. He was 64 at the time although now, knowing more about the disease, Alzheimer's was present many, many years ago, which is why early detection is so important. As you read the blog the character "Al" that I created in 2008, represents the way that Alzheimer's is invading our daily lives.
There is an archive tab further down the page that starts from the beginning of our journey.

Living with Bob and "Al"

Sheri knows Bob is in the wandering phase, at least at night. He no long recognizes that dark out side means night. Last night he was up so many times Sheri gave up. "Al" stood in the hallway of this tiny house she rented (after losing hers to what Sheri calls "Alzheimer Foreclosure" in 2011) for over an hour not able to find his way to the bedroom or the living room, whistling away. In the hallway Bob found the framed embroidered piece the "Serenity Prayer". He was so fixated on the prayer, that when Daughter number 1 set him down to do his beads, "Al" was pointing and explaining that the beads WERE the Serenity Prayer and how much he always loved it.
Sheri thinks there may be a message in there for her somewhere as well :)

  1. I believe to in the message. Even through everything you have experienced with Bobs disease moments like these allow you to breath deep.
