This blog is about life with my husband who was diagnosed with Early Onset Alzheimer's and Frontal Lobe Dementia in 2008. He was 64 at the time although now, knowing more about the disease, Alzheimer's was present many, many years ago, which is why early detection is so important. As you read the blog the character "Al" that I created in 2008, represents the way that Alzheimer's is invading our daily lives.
There is an archive tab further down the page that starts from the beginning of our journey.

Living with Bob and "Al"

Sheri is drained and tired. Sometimes she thinks maybe she is in denial about how much longer she can care for Bob and "Al" at home. She write this blog daily because Alzheimer's is a daily disease. It is not just the spot you see on the news, or the quick mention on the radio.
It is a personal blog, because Alzheimer's is personal disease. It affects the most personal of issues and it is happening everywhere to someone and that someone's caregiver, every moment of every day. As caregivers we just keep evolving to meet the demands of the evolving disease, making our perspective on our world distorted and convincingly tolerable.
Then even as Sheri says that in her head, her heart is still beating to a different drummer, for reasons even Sheri does not understand.

  2. This is such a difficult time of year ... why do we continue to try to have things the same as they always were? Being the spouse for Bob must be incredibly more difficult, than what I face with my dad, and now my mom in her beginning stages. I find myself extremely drained, tired and wishing I could get my life back. But, like you said, inside yourself, another drummer marches ... and forges ahead, trying to their very best.
May you find some peace and joy, during this season of memories ... your blog helps me a LOT ... you are appreciated by more than you know.
    Love and hugs.

  3. Every post is great Sheri, but I really connected with this one. Evolving to the demands, so much so, that those closest to me don't even know how wearing it really is. I have my own business, so I can work out of my home, and that makes matters worse. I have a beautiful design studio in town, but I rarely spend time there, because I don't have help yet and my husband doesn't go to daycare. But, that will hopefully change in the New Year. So today, I will just pause and pray. Thank you for such a great post. xoxoxo Maureen
