This blog is about life with my husband who was diagnosed with Early Onset Alzheimer's and Frontal Lobe Dementia in 2008. He was 64 at the time although now, knowing more about the disease, Alzheimer's was present many, many years ago, which is why early detection is so important. As you read the blog the character "Al" that I created in 2008, represents the way that Alzheimer's is invading our daily lives.
There is an archive tab further down the page that starts from the beginning of our journey.

Living with Bob and "Al"

The frozen tundra has set it. Sheri is always so worried about Bob slipping and falling. The ice of course is worse than the snow. Bob wants to shovel, not even a chance that Sheri is going to let that happen. Although it has been only 5 years since "Al" tried to clear all 18 inches of the heavy wet snow with the leaf blower. :)

  1. From you posts, you seem to have found a wonderful place for Bob to spend some time during the day and even mentioned meetings with his caseworker. How did you find such a place? What should I be looking for and asking? My husband is not as confused as Bob yet, but he is restless and bored during the day, yet gets frustrated when asked to do any tasks. The only things I have found he can do fairly well is clip coupons and pull weeds. If there was somewhere he could spend a few hours a couple of times per week to do group activities, he might enjoy that.

    1. Andrea, Look for Adult Day Centers in your area, (Adult Day Care) he had been in a nursing home recovering from and injury when the insurance coordinator, gave me the t name of this place , because at that point it was mandatory that he have 24 hour supervision. The Alzheimer's Association may have list of places in your area that do this kind of care. Good Luck. Where do you live?

  2. Sheri, have you tried something like Yak Trax on Bob's shoes, when he's out on the snow and ice?
