This blog is about life with my husband who was diagnosed with Early Onset Alzheimer's and Frontal Lobe Dementia in 2008. He was 64 at the time although now, knowing more about the disease, Alzheimer's was present many, many years ago, which is why early detection is so important. As you read the blog the character "Al" that I created in 2008, represents the way that Alzheimer's is invading our daily lives.
There is an archive tab further down the page that starts from the beginning of our journey.

Living with Bob and "Al"

Sheri has decided to do something about her frustration with lack of awareness of Dementia's in the world around her. She recently got an exciting opportunity to meet with Lori LaBey from  Alzheimersspeaks. She has both a web site and a radio station, dedicated to sharing information about Alzheimer's. She is a speaker, trainer and educator of Dementia. If you are not familiar with it, take a minute and visit her web site. I met with her to discuss the program that was started in the UK by Norman McNamaras called "Dementia Aware". It is program designed to help spread awareness about  Dementia related behaviors and traits, so that we can learn how to see the signs and become a more Dementia friendly community. Sheri is going to participate with this in any way she can, so she is not just complaining about her world with Bob and "Al" but learning to make a difference in the world around her.
Click on the links in the post to find out more information about this program and maybe even how you can help.  :)

I was in the car this morning and listened to a very interesting discussion on NPR's Diane Rehm's show. They had the director of NIH on and he was talking about, among other things, the relationship between Alzhiemers and Parkinsons, which runs in my family. See:
A Conversation With Dr. Francis Collins, Director Of The NIH
10 a.m. (ET) Researchers and drug companies are joining forces to examine similarities among some of our worst ailments. NIH Director Francis Collins talks with Diane about a new era of collaboration to find treatments for Alzheimer's, Parkinson's and other diseases.
