This blog is about life with my husband who was diagnosed with Early Onset Alzheimer's and Frontal Lobe Dementia in 2008. He was 64 at the time although now, knowing more about the disease, Alzheimer's was present many, many years ago, which is why early detection is so important. As you read the blog the character "Al" that I created in 2008, represents the way that Alzheimer's is invading our daily lives.
There is an archive tab further down the page that starts from the beginning of our journey.

Living with Bob and "Al"

Sheri definitely sees things changing with Bob. "Al's" confusion has Bob frustrated and the tension is showing. It is showing with simple things, like missing articles of clothing when he gets dressed or undressed, the signs she has up in the bathroom are no longer queuing him as to what to do. Sheri has watched him not be able to put a sandwich together, refold a towel that he just folded, and wash the same dish over again. Not to long ago he only showed repetition in his speech and questions not his actions. She has heard it from the beginning, it only gets worse.
Sheri hates this disease.

  1. Oh, Sheri, I feel your pain. I have been fooling myself for the past year, but I am coming to accept my DH is worsening also. He has reached the stage where he needs verbal cues for simple actions like using a drinking fountain or getting dressed appropriately. Stay strong- I tell people that God has a plan, I don't have to know what it is. I only have to make the best decisions I can and trust the Holy Spirit is guiding me- and you.

  2. Wish for "like" button. Thoughts are with you as you witness and testify to these incremental, creeping losses. It requires fortitude and bravery. You've got this...

  3. My husband is not that far along, can still do simple tasks (I thought). He sprayed all the weeds in the yard with Roundup, then sprayed all the weeds on the lawn. Roundup is a weed and grass killer. You can imagine, I have a polka dot lawn.
