This blog is about life with my husband who was diagnosed with Early Onset Alzheimer's and Frontal Lobe Dementia in 2008. He was 64 at the time although now, knowing more about the disease, Alzheimer's was present many, many years ago, which is why early detection is so important. As you read the blog the character "Al" that I created in 2008, represents the way that Alzheimer's is invading our daily lives.
There is an archive tab further down the page that starts from the beginning of our journey.

Living with Bob and "Al"

Sheri has a deep profound sadness today. She found out the house they lost to foreclosure, has recently been torn down. It it like the last bit of truth of who Bob was before "Al"... has disappeared for good. It does seem kind of symbolic of the way this disease destroys life as you know it. Bob put many years of hard work into that house, built steps for them to get up to it, fences to corral children and to surround her " life through the fence post" garden. He built doors that welcomed many folks in to hear the player piano. She hates what this disease does to families. She is going to decide to believe that at least her house will always have been her house and it coming down means that no one else can steal her memories and make them their own.

God has a plan

  1. I can only imagine how difficult hearing about your house has been. My husband and I need to move from the only home he's ever owned and he's had a hard time accepting that idea. The memories you have will stay with you. Your blog helps me through my days while my husband is still in the early stages of this awful disease. Thanks.
