This blog is about life with my husband who was diagnosed with Early Onset Alzheimer's and Frontal Lobe Dementia in 2008. He was 64 at the time although now, knowing more about the disease, Alzheimer's was present many, many years ago, which is why early detection is so important. As you read the blog the character "Al" that I created in 2008, represents the way that Alzheimer's is invading our daily lives.
There is an archive tab further down the page that starts from the beginning of our journey.

Living with Bob and "Al"

Over the weekend Sheri was not feeling the best, kind of flu like. She needed to get some things from the store, so she loaded up Bob and "Al" and convinced herself to make the quick trip to Target. Well, Bob's back and knees were not cooperating so as she has done in the past when he is having a hard time walking, Sheri had him use the motorize cart that they have in the store. The only thing she did not count on for this "short not feeling well trip to the store", was that "Al" all of a sudden could not work the motorized cart. It only has 2 levers forward and reverse. So Sheri had to try to operate the cart for him. Sheri is not sure if any of you have ever tried to operate one of these without actually sitting in it, but shall we say Sheri grew very frustrated on her suppose to be "short shopping trip" very quickly. Sheri has decided after the last two failed shopping experiences, that maybe it is time to figure out how to get the shopping done with out Bob and "Al". She is going to try leaving work a little early one day each week to get the shopping done with less stress. This used to be something they still enjoyed together, now it is just something else Alzheimer's and stolen from them. Sheri just has to keep reworking the plan.

  3. Just when you think the plan is working, you have to readjust. I'm so glad you are able to go with the flow. Good luck.
