Sheri and Bob were driving home from "work" on Friday. Bob says "it is pretty bad when you know everyone in the cars all around you" Sheri replied, "Oh did you see someone you knew?" "Al" responded " Well no, not the people, but I know all of these cars and the ball cap on that guy over there...he worked with me a Wards."
(heavy sigh )
This blog is about life with my husband who was diagnosed with Early Onset Alzheimer's and Frontal Lobe Dementia in 2008. He was 64 at the time although now, knowing more about the disease, Alzheimer's was present many, many years ago, which is why early detection is so important. As you read the blog the character "Al" that I created in 2008, represents the way that Alzheimer's is invading our daily lives.
There is an archive tab further down the page that starts from the beginning of our journey.

I find two things interesting. One, in general, the often mentioned placing of his fingers in his belt/belt loops. He did that when he was kind of standing around waiting for something when we were in high school (cafeteria line, band rehersal, etc.). I take it as a mannerism that he probably saw men do when he was growing up in the midwest and just added it to his persona.
ReplyDeleteThe other thing that I've noticed is that he still has that memory of working at Wards. It was a big part of his life for many years. The last time I talked to him in a meaningful discussion, quite a few years ago, he talked longingly about his Wards experiences while he was in his new hardware store job. That period must still dominate a place somewhere that "Al" can't get to.
