This blog is about life with my husband who was diagnosed with Early Onset Alzheimer's and Frontal Lobe Dementia in 2008. He was 64 at the time although now, knowing more about the disease, Alzheimer's was present many, many years ago, which is why early detection is so important. As you read the blog the character "Al" that I created in 2008, represents the way that Alzheimer's is invading our daily lives.
There is an archive tab further down the page that starts from the beginning of our journey.

Living with Bob and "Al"

Sheri kind of lost her patience yesterday, she feels terrible about it. She has been trying to get organized in this tiny but cozy house she rented. Bob wanted to help so they were sorting boxes together (mostly Bob watching Sheri work) They had been working for several hours, it was a very slow process. Sheri had just emptied a rather large awkward box that had a lot of loose things a the bottom. She needed to go through the assorted stuff so she asked Bob to get a zip lock bag. So she spoke slowly and specifically, asking Bob to get a zip lock back from on top of the microwave. Sheri already had the awkward box up in the air braced between her knee and the wall. The kitchen is five steps from where they were, the microwave six. "Al" could not find the microwave or the zip lock bags. After several minutes of Sheri trying to re-direct him with the box still up in the air, she got frustrated and she finally had to drop the box and retrieve the bag herself. She was tired and irritated that "Al" could not perform such a simple task. Bob sensed her disappointment, and said "is there something else I can do to help?" Sheri was embarrassed by her behavior, she knows it is not his fault, but the reality is there is just not much Bob can do to help. Sheri hates this disease.

  1. Hi Sheri,
New follower of your blog and I have only read this post but sure can relate. We hate this disease as well. My mother-in-law Betty is taking the same journey and it is so frustrating for everyone. Just know that Bob and Mary are thinking of you today and wish you snippets of joy galore!
