This blog is about life with my husband who was diagnosed with Early Onset Alzheimer's and Frontal Lobe Dementia in 2008. He was 64 at the time although now, knowing more about the disease, Alzheimer's was present many, many years ago, which is why early detection is so important. As you read the blog the character "Al" that I created in 2008, represents the way that Alzheimer's is invading our daily lives.
There is an archive tab further down the page that starts from the beginning of our journey.

Living with Bob and Al
Sheri thinks she is pretty in tune with Bob and his behaviors. But Sheri realized last night that sometimes the changes in "Al" are so subtle that even she doesn't notice. There was a a time not too long ago, when if all else failed Bob would always do the laundry, (he would shrink all of Sheri's clothes) but he knew it was there and that it needed to be done. Sheri noticed now that if she does not direct his every task, Bob does not know what to do with himself. It is like the thought never enters his mind, but physical tasks were his life, no hobbies, nothing that involved fun, now he is losing that task function as well. Sheri doesn't know exactly what that means. Sometimes the changes are just so darn subtle.

Seeing this occur in my mom was crushing because I knew our roles were now reversed. I can not imagine what it is like for you seeing this change in your husband. Stay strong, you are an amazing Care Giver with so much love.
ReplyDeleteThank you for all your support Susan. I am glad your Mom is doing well at the nursing home.It sounds like you have become a very friendly face there.
