This blog is about life with my husband who was diagnosed with Early Onset Alzheimer's and Frontal Lobe Dementia in 2008. He was 64 at the time although now, knowing more about the disease, Alzheimer's was present many, many years ago, which is why early detection is so important. As you read the blog the character "Al" that I created in 2008, represents the way that Alzheimer's is invading our daily lives.
There is an archive tab further down the page that starts from the beginning of our journey.

Living with Bob and Al

Bob and "Al" might be getting a little paranoid at the nursing home
Today Sheri mentioned that maybe Bob should shave,
She handed the electric shaver to Bob... and "Al" headed out the door of his room.
Sheri being very confused said "Bob the bathroom is right here in your room"
Bob walked back in and hesitantly opened the door to the shared bathroom in his room
He started shaking his head and biting his lip... "No he whispered "Someone is in there"
Sheri walked into the empty room with him and showed him (again) that it s a shared bathroom
actually 4 people share the one bathroom. Sheri showed him again that the other door locks
making it secure, Bob and "Al" shake their head back and forth and hurry out of the room.
Sheri said "where are you going?" "Bob proceeds down the hall, with a very sneaky look on his face
hands clasped in front if him, as if he doesn't want anyone to know.
"Al" speaks to Sheri out of the corner of his mouth worried that someone is listening
"See the sign up there", (rolling his eyes up at the sign) he whispers " that says restroom"
"I'm going in there..." he slips through the door sideways...
Sheri   (heavy sigh)

  1. Sheri,
Thanks for the info re: dementia and memory. My DH has moderate dementia as well as Bob. He cannot follow simple instructions and has a hard time with numbers. Can't understand the clock or calendar among other things. I didn't know there was a difference. This is a sad, horrible disease.
