This blog is about life with my husband who was diagnosed with Early Onset Alzheimer's and Frontal Lobe Dementia in 2008. He was 64 at the time although now, knowing more about the disease, Alzheimer's was present many, many years ago, which is why early detection is so important. As you read the blog the character "Al" that I created in 2008, represents the way that Alzheimer's is invading our daily lives.
There is an archive tab further down the page that starts from the beginning of our journey.

Living with Bob and Al

Sheri struggles sometimes
to believe some of things
that happen day to day
are not mistakes that anyone could make
But today was different and Sheri
can't stop thinking about it

Bob had been complaining
that the coffee pot was taking to long to drip
and that it needed to be cleaned out with that CLR
stuff that they see on TV
So Sheri and Bob went to the store got the CLR
and went home to clean the coffee pot, something Bob had done
many times in the past...
Sheri read the directions and watched Bob pour the mixture chemical
and water into the coffee pot,
Sheri walked over to the computer in the same room
turned her head just in time to see "Al " starting to put coffee
into the coffee basket  of the coffee pot, the one they had just filled
with cleaning chemical ..
Sheri was horrified and screamed "Bob you can't make coffee right now"
"we just put the cleaning chemical in the pot!"
"Al" looked at Sheri in total confusion as if  he had no idea what she was talking about
Then Bob shook his head and clenched is jaw in his familiar way, and slammed down the coffee container
Sheri did not let "Al" out of her sight until the cleaning of the pot was done
but that did not help her stop thinking about what could have been.
Sheri had not thought about this type of situation, she needs to accept this disease for what it is
how does she do that?

  1. Sheri I am right there with you and living the same as you. Wish I could help you but I can hear you loud and clear. I hate this disease.
