With Bob
Sheri always thought he was the
strong silent type, but she needed so much more
It turns out the brain injury Bob had
sometime in his youth
that no one in his family seemed to know about
Affected his frontal lobes
and left his emotion center damaged
Finding this out after 19 years of marriage
was indeed a shock, a cruel joke
although it explained so many things,
and yet created so many more questions....
So the staring into each others eyes
in the Shoneys restaurant in San Antonio years ago
when Sheri thought Bob was love struck and speechless
Was actually Bob just... staring.
Maybe that injury is what open the door for "Al" to move in?
Sheri will never know, but she knows one thing,
she feels cheated.

I appreciate your writing: so honest and direct. I've started a blog to process my family's experience with Alzheimers, too. Mom was diagnosed three years ago; she is now 57 years old. I agree, I feel cheated. Thank you for sharing.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the support Emily, sorry about your Mom it is a devastating disease. If your blog is public we should share on the blog lists. Take care.
