This blog is about life with my husband who was diagnosed with Early Onset Alzheimer's and Frontal Lobe Dementia in 2008. He was 64 at the time although now, knowing more about the disease, Alzheimer's was present many, many years ago, which is why early detection is so important. As you read the blog the character "Al" that I created in 2008, represents the way that Alzheimer's is invading our daily lives.
There is an archive tab further down the page that starts from the beginning of our journey.

Living with Bob and "Al"

The mental process of deciding to place Bob and "Al" has been exhausting.  Behaviors have become unmanageable. More importantly Sheri can no longer keep him safe. She was feeling housebound again because "the boys" do not like being out in the cold, but the sundowning  started early yesterday and Sheri decided to just bundle them up and put them in the car and go for a drive. Sheri challenged herself to take her camera and see what type of photos she could take from inside the car, since photo opportunity have been few and far between and she is missing her connection with nature and God. She was able to get a few good shots from parking lots so she was feeling a sense of connection to her surroundings again, so much so that when "Al" managed to not only unlock the car door but actually open the car door WHILE SHERI WAS DRIVING  she heard God screaming at her loud and clear that was time to place Bob somewhere where "they" can be safe.
