This blog is about life with my husband who was diagnosed with Early Onset Alzheimer's and Frontal Lobe Dementia in 2008. He was 64 at the time although now, knowing more about the disease, Alzheimer's was present many, many years ago, which is why early detection is so important. As you read the blog the character "Al" that I created in 2008, represents the way that Alzheimer's is invading our daily lives.
There is an archive tab further down the page that starts from the beginning of our journey.

Living with Bob and "Al"
When Sheri arrived home the night of the "awkward emergency bathroom plan", she found that she could not get in the house. The bottom lock was broken and her key would not work. It was already dark out and none of the exterior house lights were on. Sheri was in a bit of a panic trying to make a plan. She took "Al" by the hand and in the pitch darkness being led only by her cell phone light, they made there way to the back of the house hoping to find a window opened. The windows in her bedroom are up high but Sheri hoped at least one was not locked. She then had to take "Al" again by the hand and manage to get a ladder to the window. The darkness made this, as you can image a very long process. Sheri stood Bob and "Al" by the bird feeder and told him to watch for birds (LOL) and then Sheri actually had to climb the ladder cut the screen and climb in the window. As she had herself half way through the window ( not a pretty sight) she turned her cell phone towards Bob and "Al" in the darkness, to check on the boys. The humor of the situation struck her. There was "Al, cane in one hand, and a full emergency container in the other hand, whistling his usual "To God be the Glory". Sheri could not help but laugh as she mumbled to herself, "yep, this is my life" :)

That is too funny, Sheri. Look what a wonderful "tough" lady you've become. You are able to take care of yourself where many would sit down and cry. Life is good!
