This blog is about life with my husband who was diagnosed with Early Onset Alzheimer's and Frontal Lobe Dementia in 2008. He was 64 at the time although now, knowing more about the disease, Alzheimer's was present many, many years ago, which is why early detection is so important. As you read the blog the character "Al" that I created in 2008, represents the way that Alzheimer's is invading our daily lives.
There is an archive tab further down the page that starts from the beginning of our journey.

Living with Bob and "Al"

Sometimes Sheri feels that she has nothing to combat her loneliness.

  1. Read.
Write. I'm sure your blog helps.
Take long walks together, for as long as possible.
Read up on the Heimlich maneuver.
    Good luck.

  2. My lonliness comes from not having our children close by and the fear of not knowing when change will happen and the memory loss will decline. Here's a hug for you! Sandy

  4. Sheri, if it helps at all, know that you are not alone in your loneliness (pardon the pun). Though it was perfectly natural for my husband and I to become best and closest friends, if I had it to do over, I would have made a point to develop more friends outside of our marriage. The problem with having had such a close relationship, is that now that he is “here but gone” it is very, very lonely. My youngest son is applying to colleges and I literally cannot let my mind even touch on what it will be like when he leaves. I know you like photography – so here is a project that looks like fun and might take your mind of your loneliness for a while: http://www.positivelypresent.com/2011/11/zoom-in-on-gratitude-30-day-photo-challenge.html
