This blog is about life with my husband who was diagnosed with Early Onset Alzheimer's and Frontal Lobe Dementia in 2008. He was 64 at the time although now, knowing more about the disease, Alzheimer's was present many, many years ago, which is why early detection is so important. As you read the blog the character "Al" that I created in 2008, represents the way that Alzheimer's is invading our daily lives.
There is an archive tab further down the page that starts from the beginning of our journey.

Living with Bob and "Al"

Sheri has many things to be thankful for. She has a great church family that helps her in more ways then she can count. She can look back at her faith journey and see exactly why God placed certain people in her life. Those people have become her family. They have not hesitated to support her. One gave her an air conditioner for her tiny rented house, another has fixed her car... both have listen to her vent about this hand she has been dealt, without judgment. Her small group bible study provides emotional stability for Sheri, Bob and "Al".  She only hopes she can bless all of them someday the way she is blessed by them. This is the true meaning a being a part of God's family, and Sheri is not ashamed to admit it.

  1. And it all happened/s because you responded to the Lord when he knocked. God is good, but only if you allow him...and you do. You are already a blessing to more people than you realize.

  3. Greetings and God bless you ~

My name is Hazel Minnick. I have been following your life for weeks now and praying for you daily. It took me until today to figure out how to join in with you to let you know my thoughts and prayers are with you as you take this journey.

I was diagnosed with Alzheimer's in 1999 and am experiencing my 13th year with this devastating thief of my mind, memory, and me. I have written and published a book titled "LIVING IN MY SHADOW ~ My Journey with Alzheimer's" ~ promoting early diagnosis, meds, and Ballroom Dancing to rehabilitate the mind and body. In 2004, I did not recognize my family nor know how to feed myself properly. My doctor discovered a combination of meds to reverse the symptoms of Alzheimer's and today I live independently again. Five years ago, 2007, I was needing walker and wheelchair for stamina and balance. Ballroom Dance taught me my numbers again and increased my memory skills and today I with an assisting professional partner, I waltz and dance to raise money for Alzheimer's Awareness and Research.

Tony Dovolani from Dancing with the Stars inspired me to go public with my story, presenting as a message of hope for this horrific disease. My personal journals begun in 1999 are now a public story. The day I was born, God knew that he would give me 3 specific gifts ~ the gift of Alzheimer's, the gift as a public speaker, and the gift of being a published writer ~ in order to give a voice to this disease and a message of hope for those on this journey. My story can be seen on Facebook.

I pray that God will be with you and I would be happy to help you in anyway that I can on this journey. You are not alone. Remember to "Just Believe in One More Day!" and "Dare to Live!"

    Blessings Always ~
