This blog is about life with my husband who was diagnosed with Early Onset Alzheimer's and Frontal Lobe Dementia in 2008. He was 64 at the time although now, knowing more about the disease, Alzheimer's was present many, many years ago, which is why early detection is so important. As you read the blog the character "Al" that I created in 2008, represents the way that Alzheimer's is invading our daily lives.

Congrads on making the first attempt! Way to go Sheri. You need to do this for both of you!

Sheri, I go to an aquatic center where they have a warm water therapy pool. It is just 4 feet and barely warm. All sizes and ages of people come to walk in the water. I did it last year and my hip pain, back pain, and knee pain were so much better. I wanted to tell you this because if you could get Bob and yourself in a pool. It would surely help...something about the water relaxes us seem to help with stress. I sometimes go in the regular pool if the therapy pool is too crowded. We have several people that bring loved ones that have AD. They really enjoy it. I am wondering if you got a doctors order if insurance would pay for it. I have heard some women talking about they get in free because medicare or some agency pays for them both because the AD patient can't come in alone. I don't know how it works but you could check around to see if you can get some info about how the insurance part works. Also if there is not a therapy pool you could use just a regular pool to do your walking. Maybe the YWCA could help you if you have a pool in yours. I lost weight and inches fast. I am diabetic and my doctor suggested it for me because the threadmill just kills my hip and knees. I tried water aerobics but my back could not take it...too much pain. I was on ice packs and pain meds so my doctor suggested walking in water. It is the thing here in our little town. Sorry for the long comment but just wanted to throw it out there for you. Stay warm my friend and blessings to you. Email me if you have questions. :~)
