This blog is about life with my husband who was diagnosed with Early Onset Alzheimer's and Frontal Lobe Dementia in 2008. He was 64 at the time although now, knowing more about the disease, Alzheimer's was present many, many years ago, which is why early detection is so important. As you read the blog the character "Al" that I created in 2008, represents the way that Alzheimer's is invading our daily lives.
There is an archive tab further down the page that starts from the beginning of our journey.

Living with Bob and Al

Bob and "Al" aren't doing well
remember Thanksgiving when they fell?

Well it turns out "they" tore their rotor cuff again
and "their" knee well who knows, but Sheri just can't win

But Sheri knows from experience surgery is just not a good choice
it messes with "Al" then Sheri becomes even more of "their" voice.

Last surgery at the hospital  one thing led to another
and Sheri wound up feeling even less like a wife, and more like "their" mother

Sheri could not leave "their" side, for fear what "they'd "say
The nurses did not understand that "Al" had taken over and that Bob went away ...

Sheri is struggling , she doesn't understand
How to keep Bob in one piece
Without staying glued to "Al's" hand ....

The doctors can fix the shoulder all over again
But if  Bob doesn't come back  then nobody wins...

Proverbs 1:33
but whoever listens to me will live in safety and be at ease, without fear of harm."

  1. I know how you feel. THe last time I had to take my mother to the hospital ER after a fall I feared the worst. However I was lucky enough to be treated by some of the most compassionate people I ever met. I found out that both had been touched by "Al" in their families.
